  Our experience

Peter Butcher
Consultant and Trainer
Peter ButcherPJB Fire Safety Training was founded by Peter Butcher in 2008. A fire fighter for 30 years, Peter has worked at all the fire stations in Fife and Tayside, and was promoted to leading fire-fighter at Macalpine Road Fire Station in Dundee where he was in charge of specialist appliances.

Peter also worked for 17 years at the Arbroath Fire Station. While based at this rural station he became experienced in managing fires in farms and steadings, and other incidents such as rescuing people from farm machinery or releasing entrapped animals.

In 2002 he became an instructor at the Scottish Fire Services College (SFSC) in Gullane. He remained there for six years, progressing to senior instructor, health and safety manager and, latterly, senior manager

Peter’s qualifications range from all the specific relevant fire service qualifications to:

  • IOSH Managing Safety Course.
  • Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH General Certificate)
  • Currently mid-way through the NEBOSH Diploma Course
  • Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment which is an IFE Approved Course
  • Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Assessments
  • Equality and Fairness Development for Trainers and Managers
  • SVQ -
    • “Enable Learning” through “Coaching” L10
    • “Demonstration and Instruction” L11
    • “Presentations” L12
    • “Assessing Candidates” using a “Range of Methods” A1
    • “Performance through Observation” A2
    • “Verification of Assessors” V1

Alec Bryson
Consultant and Trainer
Alec spent 32 years with Lothian and Borders Fire Service, working for many years in the Fire Safety Department. He is fully qualified in all aspects of Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Training, and was co-manager with Peter Butcher at the Scottish Fire Services College.

Alec is also a specialist in ‘New Dimension’, the programme which aims to enhance the capacity of fire and rescue services in the UK in response to terrorist attacks and other large-scale incidents.

Jim Robson
Consultant and Trainer
Jim was a senior officer with Cumbria Fire Service before becoming principal of the Scottish Fire Services College in Gullane for six years. He went on to work for the Scottish Government as special projects officer with the HMI (Her Majesty’s Inspectorate).

Aileen Butcher
Administrator
Aileen has worked within the fire safety industry for many years. Her specialist experience means that she is ideally placed for managing all office-based operations, including enquiries, training programmes, administration and finance.
